Help tips in buying auto insurance:

Tip 1: Collect a broker’s business card. Your broker must be a licenced broker by the California Department of Insurance. In order to get a license, the broker must go through an insurance class, write an exam, and fulfil other requirements.
But, there are still some brokers who are not licenced. Find out about your broker’s licence. As a law, all brokers should include his licence number on his business card, so that is can be traced when the need arises. You must keep all papers and the business card with all California auto insurance papers.
All California auto insurance companies are listed on the California Department of Insurance Web site (www.insurance.ca.gov). If you have bought from any unlicenced California auto insurance, then you can collect back your brokers fee.

Tip 2: Know the difference between an insurance broker, the and insurance company. There is a difference between brokers and California auto insurance companies. Brokers are insurance seller that are independent. To get you an auto insurance, the broker often will compare the rates and coverags of so many California auto insurance companies. Words like “insurance services, insurance agency, etc” are usually associated with a broker. All California auto insurance companies have the responsibility of paying for claims, but a broker does not. Words like “insurance company, assurance company, indemnity company, etc” are usually associated with an insurance company.

Tip 3: Always be patient to ask questions. It is important for you to carefully read all given forms, and be patient to ask for assistance if you dont understand. You should not allow anyone to try and make you hurry to do things. Asking questions – a broker must also be patient enough to slowly explain everything in simple terms so that you can understand. Everything must be put in writing, including promises that a broker makes. Make sure you dont sign any papers you are not sure of, and forms with empty spaces should not be signed- let the broker rule out the space for you to sign.

Tip 5: Take you time to check up insurance companies yourself. Buying auto insurance is not cheap. A lot of money, even hundreds of dollars can be save each year, if you learn more about auto insurance. You can start from the California Department of Insurance Web site at www.insurance.ca.gov.
